2008-2009 Budget was prepared by Committee and presented by Lion Dennis Walton, Cabinet Treasurer. Lion Dennis stated that 9 clubs still had unpaid dues and he would accept checks today.

Special Presentations – The Gerald P. Tinney "Southeastern Guide Dogs" Award was presented to the Homosassa Lions Auxiliary. Lion Carolyn Tinney was on hand for the presentation. The Homosassa Lions Auxiliary donated the most money to SEGDI during the 2007-2008 Lion’s year. This is a traveling trophy and the Auxiliary mentioned that they are already working on this year’s donation so that they will be able to hold on to the trophy. This was the first time the Auxiliary attended a Cabinet meeting and had 8 of their members in attendance. Congratulations to the Homosassa Lions Auxiliary!
Lion Ellen Durling, PDG, reported on the redistricting plans on moving forward and the committee is working within each District to incorporate the merging Districts Constitution and Bylaws. Going from 7 to 4 districts requires planning for all.
Lion Suzy Stathas, IPDG, introduced the current Council Chair, Michael C. Mason, as our guest speaker. CC Michael C. gave an update on some of the plans for the 2008-2009 year. He stressed the importance of each club appointing a member as the Disaster Chair so that as Lions of MD-35 we will be able to ALERT all concerned. He also touched on some changes for the MD Convention next year to be held in Tampa.
Lion Michael Venning, Leadership Chair, thanked all that attended the Officers Training held in July at the Lions Eye Institute. Thank you certificates were presented to all the Instructors.
Lion Art Padula, Nominations Chair, reported that he had received the Notice of Intent to proceed to District Governor for the 2009-2010 Lions year from our 1st VDG C. David Lloyd.
Lion Cathy Walton, PDG, Public Relations Chair, gave an update on the SightFirst II Campaign. 35-R had many Model Clubs. Topaz patches were presented to clubs - Holiday Polonian – Hudson Bayonet Point – Lutz-Paradise Lakes. To promote Public Relations the committee will be preparing a Display Board for the purpose of giving out information on LIONS. Additional planned events were also announced. The 2nd EYE BALL for the Lions Eye Institute will be held on November 15th. The 2nd 35-R Awards banquet will be held on March 26, 2009. This year it will highlight HERO AWARDS.
Lion Susie Cohen, SEGDI Drive Director, announced several projects: the basket project started last year is continuing and the drawing originally scheduled for this Cabinet meeting will be held-over until the next Cabinet meeting. They are also planning a NO-BAKE bake sale. Also a 35-R day at Southeastern Guide Dogs is planned for November 8th; if staying for lunch the cost is $7.00.
Lion Jackie Cameron, PCC, reported that the USA-Canada Forum is fast approaching and there is still time to get registered if you are planning on attending.
LION JIM COLEMAN, DISTRICT GOVERNOR GERRI’S PARTNER-IN-SERVICE CAME BACK TO REPORT THAT HE WAS TAKING DG GERRI HOME NOW. SHE DIDN’T HAVE ANY FRACTURES OR ANYTHING BROKEN. SUCH GOOD NEWS! SHE WILL BE RESTING AT HOME.
Lion Lois Q. Malecky, PDG, Cabinet Secretary, reminded all club Secretaries on filing the WMMR report. This weekend is the last time to file the current month’s report. Only about 6 six clubs are falling behind. Just call if you need assistance or have questions in order to file on line.
Lion Ed Henderson, PDG, spoke on a membership drive in conjunction with Sam’s Club. Sam’s Club is having a membership drive and if any Lion within 35-R joins a Sam’s Club they will receive a $10.00 gift card/certificate. Perhaps these certificates could be used for a club project or given to one of the Lion’s entities [i.e. FL Lions Camp]. Another good idea!

Florida Lions Camp - $ 950.00
